Delve deep back into Cincinnati's German history, when the population of German immigrants was over 100,000 and lead to the name of this unique, gentrifying neighborhood. Were there are Germans, there is beer and the many bars and beer halls that once populated this neighborhood meant that breweries used to abound. To keep their barrels of beer cool, storage vaults were built underground while tunnels were dug to transport them back and forth below street level. These underground gems were forgotten when the Germans slipped away to the countryside after a wave of Anti-German sentiment swept through after WWI. After decades of being forgotten and built over, they've only recently been rediscovered and now you can tour them during a fascinating walking tour.
Stops along the tour also include an old German beer hall, and the basement of a local church.
