A few years ago, a small Interfaith Youth Group from Vermont decided to travel to a small village north of Nairobi, Kenya. Just this past April, I, along with 19 others went to the villages of Kaiguchu/Mihuti and helped with some projects. One of the projects was planting trees to try and reforest the area as part of the Green Belt Movement. We planted on a hillside with many eager children. Our goal was to plant 1,000 trees that afternoon. We did it. Afterwards the adults and teens from Vermont got to spend time with the elementary aged kids from Karaguririo Primary School. At last, we had to say goodbye to them, as they went back to school, then went home.
