Solothurn is a small city along the Aare River and is regarded as the finest Baroque town in Switzerland. The old town traffic-free streets are a joy to wander, with many shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and churches to visit.

During the fall, a gorgeous palette of colors are all around. On one side of the river is one of my favorite spots called Café Bar Landhaus. It is a cozy café to take a break and have some tasty expresso. Sit by the window to take in the view. Friday and Saturday nights, it is a lively spot for excellent draft beers, warm friendly crowd, and great lounge music. When the place is full people overflow to sit outside on a stone wall along the banks of the beautiful Aare River.

Around the corner is the best place for chocolates in Solothurn called Confiserie Hofer. The truffles and praline chocolates are simply the best. Don't leave Solothurn without making a stop here to get your fill of chocolates. It is also a nice place for coffee and lunch. The confiserie / cafe is located at 17 Stalden close to the river.
