The first planned city in all of India, Chandigarh was designed by the famed Swiss architect Le Courbusier. It is the capital of Punjab state of India. The "rock garden" is a life long work of artist Neck Chand and is located very near the capital buildings and court complex. The sprawling garden incorporates recycled materials of all kinds into the dioramas of playful animals and humans and geometrical designs. Curving paths and waterfalls add to the delight. The city of Chandigarh is represented by the Open Hand Monument which also bears a striking resmblence to a peace dove. Don't miss the government buildings and the high courts complex. They are fabulous examples of mid century modernist architecture.
