After the thrill of a day's game drive in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania, my mother and I were definitely ready to relax with a beer on the deck of our room in Boundary Hill Lodge.

The lodge is built into the side of a hill, located just outside the National Park's boundaries (hence the name), and the views were stunning.

Northern Tanzania unfolded for a hundred miles before us, and the groans of Maasai cattle bellowed a hundred meters below us.

The horizon was broken by the impressively sharp peak of Mt. Meru, and - way in the distance - even the snowy caps of Mt. Kilimanjaro could be discerned for an hour or so before the moon rose and the sky turned purple.
