Memory Lane

I had the opportunity to visit Cuba this year, and for the week I was there, I felt like I had taken a trip back in time. The vintage cars are a delight and they are seemingly everywhere. Many are used as private taxis or utilized by hotels to transport their guests in style. It was a thrill to be driven out to Hemingway's House from Havana in one of these vintage convertibles. It brought back wonderful memories of these cars from my childhood.

I WANT to go to Cuba but alas, I have an American passport and for some reason the government is still living in the past (some 50 years ago) by not allowing US citizens to go there. So much for "freedom of choice" but there you go!

David - how was the Hemingway house/museum? I am planning to get to Key West this summer but have also hit some other Hemingway haunts - Paris, upper Michigan, Pamplona, Oak Park, Venice, etc. Its impossible to complete the true adventure without seeing his Cuban house.

I too have an American passport and went to Cuba from the US with a company licensed by the US Treasury Department. I went with Friendly Planet but there are other licensed US companies that now are allowed to take Americans to Cuba. Check them out! Cuba was terrific. I really enjoyed seeing Hemmingway's house too!

Thanks David! So only with a travel company it seems. I live in Europe now and know of other Americans who flew there from here, making sure that their passports weren't stamped. Will look into getting there now. Thanks!

Yes, you need to go with a travel company but the tour was very good and I had a great time!
