Madres de Plaza de Mayo

Every Thursday afternoon at 3:30, the internationally known Mothers's of the Plaza de Mayo descend upon the square in front of the sunset hued Casa Rosada. The Madres are a human rights group that formed during Argentina's "dirty war" when the country was ruled by a military dictatorship. The Madres met while searching for their missing children and grandchildren who had "disappeared" at the hands of the military government. The group has been meeting on the plaza each week for over 3 decades. They assemble around the Pirámide de Mayo to give their weekly speech on current events and politics to a substantial crowd of news casters, citizens and tourists.
