London Walks

First time I went to London I liked it, but that was pretty much it. I thought it was a great, solemn, (stylistically) cold, masculine European capital. Then I lived there for 3 months, and fell in love with it. Yes, I still believe its solemn and all that, but it is also so magnificently diverse and it has such an impossible range of things to offer. From free museums to spectacular flea and farmers markets, and so much more! But since this is a highlight I mostly want to point out the London Walks. A friend recommended these informal tours and I cant say enough about them. Check the website for schedules (www.walks.com), but they basically meet at tube stations (no reservation required) and for a small fee they give you a 2 hour walking tour around the area. The setup is informal but the guides are very knowledgeable and professional. Each tour has a theme or neighborhood to cover (ie. Notting Hill, or Oscar Wilde’s London) and they show you curiosities and anecdotes about them. You just *have* to walk this amazing city and I think that these friendly tours are such an enriching way to do it!
