I took a bike ride on top of the ancient (16th century) wall that surrounds the town of Lucca, Italy. The wall still encircles the town like the guardian it was built to be, but the top of it has been transformed from a strategic offensive base to a parkway filled with trees, grass, and benches. The aspect I found most endearing though, were the many locals who meet up to just stroll or sit while enjoying one another's company. One could tell that this was an evening ritual for them - making time for the people in their lives.
