Being a multicultural country, Australia's food is a heady mixture of flavours from all over the world. This little beauty (pictured) is called a Pavlova and while New Zealanders claim it's their dish, Ausssies are adamant it sprung from their culinary gene pool. Whatever the source it's a popular dish of meringue (chewy and soft on the inside) with a crunchy outer shell and luxuriously topped with whipped cream and seasonal fruit.
Homemade is the best but Pavlova shells can be bought from all supermarkets and the dessert assembled in a matter of minutes...it's as Aussie as a sunny day at the beach!
