I cannot recommend Basecamp enough. Not only is it centrally located, affordable, and everything you could want in a mountain accommodation, but it's unique. This old motel has been renovated with great attention to detail. From its quirky motivational posters hanging on the walls of its [themed] rooms, small rustic bar in the lobby, orange, green, and navy blue color scheme from the bedding to the shampoo bottles, and paper bagged meals (my favorite touch being the s'mores after dinner), one can't deny that this place is hip. The staff is young, fun, and adorned in plaid. You are right next door to Harvey's casino/the Cali-Nevada state line, down the street from the Heavenly slopes, and a 20 minute walk to the breathtaking Lake Tahoe. Can't go wrong.
