When in Bali I skip the beach and head straight to the breathtaking rice terraces of Eastern Bali to experience nature in all of her green glory- Sidemen Valley

This is old Bali, unaffected by the influx of tourism—a landscape of multi-hued shades of green- rice terraces, palm trees, mossy river beds, and real village life happening all around you. Best to bring a guide with you to meander through the rice terraces, down to the river bed and through the villages- at least the first time around! Wear comfortable walking shoes that can get wet as the rice terraces tend to be a bit muddy, and a sarong just in case a temple lures you in. If you're lucky you will stumble upon a Balinese funeral or wedding - both culture rich rituals...and of course, don't forget your camera!
