The town was such a surprise. It is right on the beautiful coast of the South Island of New Zealand. The whole country is breaktaking but Nelson is a hidden gem. Many a night were spent drinking beers on the beautiful beach with friends I had met at Bumble's Hostel. Not sure if it still around but the owner is a hoot and he threw one hell of a Christmas party. Great atmosphere, chilled bars and travelers from all over the world. Spent New Year's Eve here 2006 going into 2007. For me, only Queenstown further down the South Island can compare to this rustic yet increasingly modern city.
