When I saw this box, I was curious what it was. I asked the guide and he said it was for donations for those less fortunate people in Iran. I usually try to carry some single dollar bill when ever I travel, so each time I saw one of these boxes throughout Iran, I would put one or two US dollars in the box. While I cannot be sure where the money ended up, the person opening up the boxes probably was surprised to see US dollars. Hopefully it did some good in the long run.
