Sola is a Hawaiian-inspired brunch spot in Chicago's trendy Lakeview neighborhood, but I don't ever recall having food this good in Hawaii. There is no shaved ice here, but Sola is definitely out to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Start with the malasadas, Portuguese donuts rolled in sugar and served with raspberry and chocolate sauces. If that isn't enough sugar for you, try the sour cream pancakes with blueberry, lemon zest and lemon ricotta (my personal favorite, pictured above), the caramel apple French toast or the banana upside-down pancake.
