Have a drink in a historic hotel
The Sofia, which opened in 1927 is one of San Diego's oldest hotels. The owners have made renovations for electrical & plumbing while leaving the original integrity of the building intact. The rooms are smaller than a modern hotel, but remember, this hotel was built before the "bigger is better" model was in vogue.
Their dining room, called Currant Brasserie is a charming place to sit for a drink while waiting for a friend to arrive at the bus station. Because of the history, you may also want to meander along the hallways and look at old photographs of the downtown San Diego area. As an amateur fossil collector, I can appreciate the fantastic fossil specimens at various points in the hallways.
I haven't eaten here so can't tell you about the food. The drinks are good and the bartender likes to hold a conversation.
