Hat Klong Hin, Koh Lanta, Krabi Province, Thailand.

Here's a list of things I love about Koh Lanta:

- rocks.
- waves.
- green curry.
- how warm Beer Chang still tastes decent.
- sand.
- sunshine.
- sunsets.

Sunsets on Klong Hin Beach are a thing of beauty, indeed. And there's a very good chance, even during the high season, that you'll have them all to yourself. I don't recommend that you venture out into waist-deep water to tempt fate with your camera equipment like I am wont to do, but taking a sundowner from the beach is a brilliant way to wind down a day - and prep you for whatever the night may bring. Do yourself a favor and wander south from the main tourist hordes; you'll be glad you did.

Hi. I've enjoyed reading your posts. We were considering Koh Lanta for our SE Asia trip in Feb...we'd love to see the most beautiful Thai beaches, but we really (really) don't want to contend with the crowds. Do you think Koh Lanta is a good choice or would you recommend a different beach? (Two couples, mid-thirties.) Many thanks.

hi Sarah,

Thanks for the kind words on my work!
Depending on where you go on Koh Lanta, it's quite easy to avoid the crowds. The southern part of the island - where I took these images - is blissfully quiet. The national park sees a few visitors, but it's never crowded. But all of these beaches offer quite a nice respite from the madness of places like Koh Phi Phi or Krabi. So you can't go wrong - just don't stay near the tourist hub of Saldan Village at the northern part of the island and you're fine.

Check out a place called the Ancient Realms Hotel & Spa - run by great guys and is quite a nice place to spend a few days. You could also consider spending your time on nearby Koh Ngai - very, very chilled out, and only about an hour by boat from Lanta.

Hope that helps!
