Haggling-hangover Remedy: Din Tai Fung dumplings
After a rough couple of hours of haggling with your friendly shopkeepers at Yu Yuan, you might have found yourself with faux Dr. Dre Beats, pearls, one too many China t-shirts, a shopping hangover and quite an appetite. Luckily, Din Tai Fung is right around the corner!
Din Tai Fung is a Taiwanase restaurant that has locations all around Shanghai and one of these is conveniently located in Yu Yuan. Despite it being a chain restaurant, the dumplings at Din Tai Fung are rather delicious and cheap! One steam pot will come with three to six dumplings depending on the kind. There's a huge variety anywhere from veggie dumplings, pork dumplings, and soup filled dumplings. Just let your fuwuyuan (waiter) know which ones you'd like and he or she will promptly bring them to your table!
Tip: If you're a vegetarian or have other dietary needs, be careful with which dumplings you pick. Some "veggie" one's will occasionally have a shrimp or two inside one out of the four.
