While on a recent visit to my hometown after many years away, I had wanted to visit the restorde Greenwood District, site of the worst race riot ever on American soil. The area was home to one of the most affluent and thriving black communities in the country and called "Black Wall Street" by Booker T. Washington. The entire area was burned to the ground by an angry white lynch mob in 1921 and largely ignored by the media. Even today, it is not known how many perished, upwards of several hundred by some estimates. Today Greenwood District is now an historic district and has a minor league ball park next to shops and restaurants in a revitalized area. This photo was taken at Two Brother's Hat Shop with one of my many Tulsa best friends, Palsy McCulloch. We also popped in next door Tee's Barber Shop for a chat with the locals and then a burger at Fat Guy's.
