We rented a self-catering farmhouse cottage in quaint Gorteen while visiting our daughter, who was volunteering for a semester at the Eagles Flying Raptor sanctuary in nearby Ballymote. These castle ruins are like many that dot the Irish countryside, and are found on the main road between the two villages.
