Garmisch - Partenkirchen

Just a photo that I snapped a couple of years ago while down there for some work. (Not a bad place to be sent!) The snow was everywhere and the sun was going down. I thought this church looked quite interesting, since it looked traditionally Bavarian.

That is St Martin's, a true gem. It has been closed--must be at least two years--for restoration. the exterior is now gray, which the restoration team discovered was its original color. I miss its pink facade, though, because it added a touch ofcolor on cloudy days.

Thanks for the info Margie. I will most likely get back down there in Feb or Mar, so will again check it out. Somehow gray doesn't sounds as nice as the pink!

With a bit of luck, it will be open by then. The restoration was close to being finished when they discovered the floor was seriously rotted. Then, like so many things here, it became very controversial and the local church and the archdiocese were at an impasse. So there St. Martin's sits, still waiting. And Christmas is coming!
