Finding bliss in the Cederbergs

After a very bumpy (7km or so) ride taking us deep into the hills and valleys of the Cederberg Mountains, I was beyond thrilled to arrive at Gecko Creek Lodge. If you're looking to get closer to nature, this is the place.

I watched sun fall snugly between the mountains from my tent (pictured here). You can bring your own tent, but we opted for Gecko's, with two twin beds and bedding included. They also have wood cabins with hammocks swaying out front (and I can only imagine how amazing they must be, under the thousands of twinkly stars at night!)

With a swimming pool, hiking trails to wander, a nearby river, and a lapa and boma (dining/cooking area) for mingling with the other guests... there was no shortage of activities, even at such a small property.

What I found most surprising, was the North American timber wolf named Hoka living on the premises. Somewhat domesticated, but on a lead at twilight, he was free to roam during the day, and it added a really interesting and wild dynamic to the quite, blissful experience at this lodge.
