In researching an article I wrote about the Iditarod, my son and I went dogsledding in February with Sam Deltour, a musher for Team Seavey who was the first rookie to complete the thousand-mile race with his entire sixteen-dog team intact. Later, the Seaveys invited my son and I to photograph the official start of the Iditarod in Willow, Alaska where we found ourselves among only a handful of photographers allowed in the staging area and on the starting line. In winter, the Seaveys offer dogsledding experiences through the Resurrection River Valley near Exit Glacier.
