Highlight

Comalcalco

Comalcalco, the mighty Gulf Coast Maya city-state located in Tabasco, Mexico, used its proximity to the sea to become a major player in preColombian trade. The unique feature of Comalcalco's architecture is the use of crushed shell for plaster and fired clay bricks, beacause of the lack of limestone used at most other Maya sites. Another interesting feature is the architectural style the structures share with its closest neighbor, Palenque. The ruins are located about an hour away from the city of Villahermosa.
