Child Bracelet Vendors of Kuta Lombok
Kuta Lombok is called the "other Kuta"... and it is the absolute polar opposite of Kuta Bali. Kuta Lombok is a small, rural town surrounding a stunning beach. In high season, we were able to find countless abandoned patches of beach to sit on, and the water was just beautiful. The handicrafts sold in town were well-made and authentic, and there are also many surf breaks for the surfers out there. We travelled all the way from Gili Trawangan to Kuta quite easily, but it also has many transportation options to Bali. The only downfall was the child vendors. Their persistence was remarkable!

Ali - We absolutely loved the child vendors. We were in Kuta for 12 days, and we never got tired of chatting with the kids. Once you got them talking "off-script," they were delightful. We jokingly told one boy that we were from Brazil (we live near San Francisco), and he started speaking Portuguese. They are Sasak children, and we warmed to them after visiting their village just outside of Kuta. We were invited into the home of one of the young women for snacks. As you likely know, they are very, very poor, and it felt good to help a little by buying bracelets. Our hostess made personalized bracelets on which she could sew names. We ordered 28 for friends and family, and they were ready the next day. Sure, we realized that the home invite was part of the sales process, but still. I really appreciated their resilience.
