CATCH: Humble Garden

Located just over an hour outside of Shanghai, is the beautiful city of Suzhou. Within its oldest part is the Humble Administrator's Garden. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, it is one of the more beautiful sites to visit in all of China. It has been the residence of many Chinese notables since the 2nd Century.

The gardens are very large but easy to wander through, and you will never get bored. Right away, you can tell that there was an immense effort to make these gardens look like the landscapes of rural China. Rock outcroppings meant to resemble mountains, and streams meant to be great rivers.

Outside of the gardens, there are numerous souvenir booths selling all kinds of Chinese memorabilia. I would recommend visiting the gardens later in the afternoon, as the crowds are less, and the fading light is really spectacular inside the gardens.
