After a morning of hiking to the top of the largest temple in the excavated Mayan city of Tikal, the gods answered our call for relief from the August Guatemalan sun with a symphony of a storm, highly electric and mesmerizing. We watched show huddled under a canopy with a couple of local beers at cafe on the island of Flores, overlooking Lago Peten Itza. We later emerged to explore the charming town's narrow cobblestone streets lined with colonial red-roofed buildings before continuing on our journey.
