This bridge was the farewell point for loved ones as they left Donegal on foot in the 19th century for greener pastures in Canada, USA etc .... The bridge experienced many goodbyes and tears for the people between Muckish Mountain in the west and the port of Derry, Londonderry in the east.

There is a plaque near the bridge to show us and tell us how important it is. It is a nice piece of history to walk over and remember.
