One of the best times I've ever had on a bike was spent checking out the serene countryside around La Fortuna, in view of the smoking Arenal Volcano. I borrowed a bike from the hotel and without any type of plan, found my way to some quiet roads, and happened upon an off-road path that led to a small waterfall. On the way back, I rode past some art studios and decided to stop, where I wound up getting an interesting tour of a wood carver's workshop. You never know what you might find if you're not looking for anything in particular!
