One of our favorite Eastside restaurants is Kanishka, in Redmond, home of the jetliners of Indians brought over to work at Microsoft. You always see many Indians there.
There is a wonderful vegetarian menu. (Note: southern India is largely vegetarian and Bangalore is the Silicon Valley of India.). Now that we have gone vegetarian ourselves, this is always a treat.
Everything is good. Try Baingan Masala (baby eggplant with onions, green peppers and tomatoes in spicy sauce) or Baingan Bharta (eggplant roasted in a tandoor, then mashed and blended with tomatoes, onions, ginger, garlic and simmered with spices and herbs). Or sample Aloo Gobi (cauliflower and potatoes with onions and tomatoes) or Sabzi Vindaloo (mixed veggies with spices in tangy sauce). You must have the Mulligatawny Soup (lentil, tomatoes, coconut milk).
There are lots of non-vegetarian choices, too. The prawn dishes are wonderful (Prawn Mango, Prawn Jalfrazi). Try a chicken curry or vindaloo or chicken cooked in the tandoor (clay oven).
Be sure to get some homemade naan bread (the spinach naan is especially great). Wash it all down with a lassi (yogurt drink) or some chai tea. Life will seem worth the trouble of living it.
Prices are reasonable ($11.95/entree), the décor is pleasant, and the service attentive and gracious (all Indians).
There are lunch buffets Monday-Friday 11:00-2:30 and Sat and Sun 11:30-3:00, but we always love to order off the menu. It is so much fun to discuss and choose.http://www.kanishkaofredmon...
