Costa Rica is heaven for those who enjoy birding. Throughout my trip I had no real interest in birding though I certainly enjoyed looking at birds I casually spotted. That all changed one morning at breakfast. A friend had spotted this toucan flying towards a tree in the distance so I grabbed my binoculars, little did I know the drama that was about to ensue. I watched for about 20 minutes as a pair of toucans raided a nest, the original occupants of the nest fought valiantly but ultimately failed as the toucans made a meal of the nest's contents.Who knew toucans were predatory? I wasn't a birder when I arrived in Costa Rica but I certainly returned home as one.
