Bæjarins Beztu Hot Dogs, Reykjavík, Iceland
Yes, it’s a hot dog stand. But Bæjarins Beztu might be the most popular eatery in Iceland, famous for feeding Bill Clinton as well as hordes of drunken partiers. The line starts to form at the Tryggvagata location around 10 p.m. every night and persists till 4:30 a.m. on weekends. What’s the appeal? Best damn hot dogs on the planet. You will go back for seconds.

Ashamed/happy to say I never ate Hákarl on that trip. I'd had some years earlier in the States -- someone brought it back -- and I felt content not to do so again. Still, I did keep an eye peeled for the stuff while I was there, and never saw it. If you get your hands on some, I'd be curious to hear what you think...
Well, I'm going after it on this adventure. I wouldn't feel right if I didn't. Besides, this is more of a scouting mission than anything else - Iceland will be the only place we have left once the Zombie Apocalypse begins, so I had better get used to eating Hákarl sooner rather than later.
I'll let you know how it goes!
