An Artsy Sleep in the Marais

Months before it welcomed its first guest, the Jules et Jim Hotel (whose name is a nod to the 1962 Truffaut film) had already positioned itself as a right-bank destination for night owls. Amid the mess of the hotel's construction, locals were invited to throw back a few cocktails at the bar, tour the grounds and enjoy screenings of old movies - a deft marketing tactic that reflected the owner's vision of a space that would encompass more than upmarket design rooms.

Open since last Christmas, the northern Marais hotel brings in locals and out-of-towners alike with regularly rotating photo exhibits organized in collaboration with local galleries and its intimate bar housed in a former metal foundry which boasts a meticulous selection of wines and cocktails.

A number of other attributes make it a standout, to wit: 13 out of 23 rooms feature back-lit cocoons constructed from Hi-Macs, a durable resin and mineral blend, that shelter beds; a library of over 150 works in French and English for insomniacs; late check-in/check-out and breakfast; stellar views of the Sacré Coeur and Marais from 8th floor rooms; and a quiet location only a short walk from the City Hall, Centre Pompidou and the Marché des Enfants Rouges.
