Toro Yaka Bush Lodge is located in the Balule Game Reserve adjacent to Kruger National Park in South Africa. It has 6 rooms that are all very comfortable and quiet. They leave a small story for you each night which I found very charming. It's owned by a husband and wife who have worked at other lodges throughout Kruger. They are great and extremely knowledgeable.
Toro Yaka hosts either a game drive or bush walk each morning and evening. The advantage for being in a Game Reserve (as opposed to Kruger proper) is that you can do bush walks, which I highly encourage. It's a unique opportunity to get down and get a closer look at the bush, its birds, insects and other small details. Steve is a great leader on these 3 hour hikes.
The food at the lodge is very good, some of the best we had while we were in Africa. Kudu served rare with a wine reduction sauce was a highlight.
The service overall was excellent -- warm and friendly. Meals are often eaten together with other guests which is a great way to rehash the sitings of the day and hear other safari stories from the hosts.
The lodge was very reasonably priced for what you get. They do the game drives and bush walks a la carte as well as any beverages, but still overall it cost about $400 USD per night for two of us. If you look around you'll find that's a great value. Especially for a small, intimate, safari experience.http://www.toroyaka.co.za/
