Tomar Portugal is an amazing place to visit. Within this small town is a beautiful castle built by the Knights Templar, a jewish quarter with the oldest synagogue in Portugal (museum as well) and one of the funkiest museums ever visited- the museum of matches. Over 40,000 matchbooks and match boxes are collected from all over the world. Who among us hasn't grabbed a match book when exiting a restaurant and horded it a small memento? This museum is a paean to the humble matchbook that should not be missed. Walk the area around the Praca de Republica exploring the winding narrow streets. This is where you will find the beautfiul church in the photo as well as the synagogue and jewish museum. We stayed at the convenient Hotel dos Templarios and were completely satisfied.
