Shady Glen Dairy is a 1950s throwback, known best for its cheeseburgers and homemade ice cream. I love the uniforms, and the servers that act like school teachers. If you don't speak up, they'll order you the cheeseburger without giving you any choice. Apparently a burger is no burger without the cheese! The James Beard Foundation has even recognized Shady Glen as an American Classic, and I couldn't agree more. To any tourist visiting the States and wanting to understand what a real burger is all about, I'd send them here.
