A Zoo and a Museum for One Low Price!

The Parque Museo La Venta in the busy city of Villahermosa, Tabasco provides an excellent opportunity to experience Tabasco's local archaeology and ecology. Tabasco was the ancient heartland of the mysterious Olmec culture and is a steamy, jungle clad state along the southern Gulf of Mexico. The park consists of trails through an overgrown urban forest leading you past Olmec magalithic artifacts from the nearby archaeological site of La Venta and a zoo featuring local fauna. The artifacts on display include three Collossal Heads and several altars and large figures. The zoo has spider monkeys, toucans and collared peccary among other animals in nice roomy enclosures. Villahermosa is a good stopping point for those who are travalling between the Yucatan or Chiapas and Veracruz. Villahermosa offers great seafood restaurants and the comforts of a big city. Additionally, the unique Maya archaeological site Comalcalco is located about fortyfive minutes away in a small town of the same name.
