A Steampunk Surprise for Anime Fans in Shiodome, Tokyo
Fans of Hayao Miyazaki's anime classics, which include "My Neighbor Totoro," "Spirited Away," and "Ponyo," among many others, should reserve well in advance for tickets to his Ghibli Museum outside Tokyo. If not, you may find yourself disappointed, as we recently were. So it was a magical surprise to come upon the NI-TELE Really BIG Clock at the Nippon Television Tower. This huge mechanical clock designed by Miyazaki plays musical, animated shows 5 times daily. It's so entrancing that our family planned our day trips around its schedule. Located amongst the skyscrapers at Sio-Site in Shiodome, it's either retro or even more futuristic, or both. Easily combined with a visit to Tsukiji Fish Market and Hama-rikyu Gardens.
