A slice of Italy in Georgetown
After seeing plenty of chain restaurants in the heart of Georgetown, we happened upon a lovely little restaurant with authentic Neapolitan pizza called Il Canale. Now, don't trust me on the authenticity; trust their Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana certification. In order to get it they have to have exactly the right sized pizzas, textured crusts and sourced (imported, of course) ingredients. And the wood-burning oven. The pizza was perfect and paired very well with the Chianti and grilled vegetable antipasto we shared.
On our way we walked through an alley that had a great looking Jazz place called Blues Alley. There was a big line and we were too hungry to wait, but next time I will definitely check it out. There is no better sign than a line in an alley!

Ask about or comment on this Highlight! My dad used to hang out there in the 60s to listen to the latest jazz music; now it has a higher cover charge but is still a go-to venue for major jazz artists. If you return to DC, you should also check out HR57 in the H Street district and Bohemian Caverns in the U Street Corridor—both intimate jazz clubs in funky neighborhoods.
Amazing! I don't know when I'll be back in DC, but I'll let a friend who is visiting soon know. Thanks so much, Lara!
Sweet. Feel free to have her contact me if she needs any recommendations or wants to meet up.
