A Lush Coastal Drive on The Big Island

The Hamakua Coastline on The Big Island, Hawaii, is one part Amazonian Rainforest, one part Jurassic Park meets civilization. A beautifully paved road on the northeastern side of Hawaii will lead you through some of the most beautiful places you'll ever see, past small community plantations growing everything from avocados to taro, to the famous Waipio Valley Lookout. It's just north of Hilo, and well worth the drive from Kailua-Kona area. You'll also want to visit the veil-like Akaka Falls, which is a plume of water and mist.
