A gem in the Grand Bazaar
It can be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff in Istanbul's Grand Bazaar, but Egin Tekstil is a gem. This purveyor of fine cotton goods has been in the family for over 150 years. Fifth-generation owner Süleyman Ertas is actually a doctor by trade but decided to carry on the business, and his son, who sold us our pestemals, will be continuing the tradition.
Though Egin Tekstil has created textiles for several Hollywood movies, including "Troy" and "The Hobbit," pestemals (hamam wraps) are their specialty. They make all the fabrics themselves, guaranteeing quality. The pestemals are a great purchase--only about €10 (fixed prices, no haggling required!) and they get softer the more you wash them. A great little shop.
