Two of my favorite things: boots and duct tape

Two of my favorite things: boots and duct tape

In honor of Thanksgiving (tomorrow in the USA), here’s a list of things for which, as a traveler, I’m thankful. Please add to the list.

Ziploc bags

Reclining bus seats

Wide-brimmed hats

Hostel kittens

Duct tape

Long e-mails from friends back home

Fellow passengers who tell you when you’ve reached your stop

Foreign grocery stores

Birds

The ubiquity of chocolate

Sturdy hiking boots

Mosquito nets

Public restrooms

My wife’s mastery of logistics

Dulce de leche

  2. I’m thankful for fellow travelers who are willing to trade seats on the plane so I can sit next to my honey. And coffee. What more could a traveler need but coffee and good company?

  3. Cold water on hot days, comfortable beds, clean sheets, breakfasts that are included in the price, happy hour, being able to watch the sunset from so many different and wonderful places.

  4. The book swaps were I find a book in English, one I have always wanted to read, trading it for the one just finished.

  5. the mishap that brings you unexpected joy!
the locals that go out of their way to help you find your way…
the feel of a new country’s ocean breeze…
the last forgotten stash of chocolate in the bottom of your backpack…
pieced together conversations in 3 languages…
the feeling of trust & letting go…
    …oh, so many things!

  6. Oh I would have to add ‘water pressure’ and a ’soft pillow’ – my 2 luxuries after many years of travel.
